6W go to osmington bay!

On Monday 12’th October, 6W went to Osmington bay where you have lots of fun activities and sleep in dormitories. I went with Joe, Archie and Jon and I slept on the top bunk. The best activity was Giant Swing by far and I really want to do it again. So what you do on Giant Swing is you get a bottom and top harness and you stand on a small step then climb onto a high step and they strap you in. In my case Tim strapped me in and you have to go with someone next to you.

After Giant Swing, my second favourite was Abseiling. I was terrified. So first you get into a harness, then you climb a ladder. What didn’t help was every once in a while the tower would wobble. Don’t worry, this story has a happy ending! So after I got to the top I went through the bars and got strapped in. They said sit on thin air (or the harness) and let your hands slip down to make you go down. They said if you were confident you could jump (did it) and 360 degrees spin (also did it!) then they unstrapped you when you got to the bottom and it was the next person’s go.

My third personal favourite was street surf because I kept falling off and it was really funny 😉 first (as always!) You need to put protective gear (ugh) and be safe. Then there’s a like, 15 second demo then you do the proper skating. It was really fun and I would give all 3 of them at least 9/10 score. If not higher.

My next favourite was definitely Archery because there was something called the cutlery challenge where you got better cutlery the better you scored. I got 2 salt packets (evil) and a fork ok,(I suppose) then I ate my lunch (burgers and wedges) with it. I also found out I’m really good at eating with tea stirrers and I loved the food there (I’m really off subject now!)

My next favourite was either Fossil Hunting or Problem Solving. I’ll talk about both in this paragraph. (I wont get through all the activities!) So in problem solving it was really hard and my team completed 5 challenges. In fossil hunting I found 5 belemnites (I gave 2 away) and 2 ammonites (I threw the small one but the big one really makes up for it!)

After that I did the hike. In the hike we did a 3-4 mile hike through the fields and through the fields of Osmington. We played at being Peasants and Kings on a little hole at the bottom of a fence and a step over so the Peasants had to crawl on the floor while the king climbed on their backs with his muddy, stinky shoes. We also saw the white horse of Osmington and walked for, lets say 2 hours. 3-4 miles isn’t that far when you think about it and I really enjoyed the hike even though I thought it would be boring.

Last but not least there was Rockpooling. all I have to say about that is that everyone got wet and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I will write another blog about Osmington bay soon.

phoenix fly evolution for science!

IMG_3385

In year 6 (obviously!) everybody made a phoenix fly. A phoenix fly is a bug you make out of 2 pompoms, 2 pipe cleaners, 2 googly eyes (the same size!), beads (4 at the maximum), and 2 feathers. Mine looks really cool and every phoenix fly either died or survived. Mine was about the tenth one to die and only about 8 survived! The first tragedy to make a few die was the fact that there was a road and you needed long, strong legs to run across. The second was where there was the greater phoenix fly eating lizard and you needed a big body because it liked picking out the smaller ones. The third was where you had to fly to eat the berries right on the top of your food source plant. The fourth was where you had to climb to the top with claws to escape the flood. I liked it because you got to do science while having fun. See you guys in 2 weeks because this time next week I’m going to be at Osmington bay doing EPIC stuff. I will have a lot to say about it and might take 3 or 4 weeks to write and tell you all about it because I will be remembering new stuff every millisecond (ok not quite!)
