JRSOs attend Basingstoke & Deane Council meeting

On Thursday 16th July at 6.30pm Florence and Samarth attended a full council meeting to present our road safety petition to the Mayor and local councillors. They were a little nervous but confidently gave a speech in front of 60 councillors and the Mayor.

“The United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child, Article 12, states “Children have the right to say that they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account.”

Having undertaken a number of traffic surveys on the roads around our school and worked hard to gather signatures from parents at our school, the JRSOs did a wonderful job at the Council meeting and they should be very proud of themselves!

Many thanks to Councillor Gavin James who has supported the JRSOs to start the petition. Young speakers at council 16 July 2015
