The Comenius Partners arrived 3f

The Comenius Partners arrived on Wednesday the 4th June. They came from Portugal, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Sweden and France. Taylor and Hanna (who are our student councillors) gave them a tour around our school. They were very impressed by Fairfields Primary including our artwork and the toilet facilities! Although they could all speak good English we noticed they did not pronounce words the same as we do, therefore we had to repeat ourselves sometimes.

We were lucky enough to have the Turkish teachers visit our classroom as we studied this country in World Week. These are the things we found out

-The Government has ruled that children in Turkey do not wear school uniform, however, the parents complained so much at their School that they ruled uniforms back in.

– FS children started at the age of 6

– They have a tooth fairy the same as us and Turkish children receive money under their pillow.

-‘Merhaba’ means ‘hello’ in Turkish

– Istanbul lies on two different continent – Europe and Asia.

-Ankara is the capital of Turkey.

We have really enjoyed having our Commenius visitors and would love them to come back. We have decided we would like to learn about Sweden next as that is where the makers of Minecraft are from! Thankyou Miss Jenkins for organising such a fantastic week.

Comenius Visitors in FS

On Wednesday 4th June the Comenius visitors came into our classroom. The first thing we noticed was that they were taking lots of photos. Not only of us playing nicely but also of our good work. We noticed they were taking photos of different areas of our classroom. They must have liked it and they wanted to try these ideas in their country. Some of us were lucky enough to get the chance to speak to them. Lorenzo politely asked our Polish visitors which country they came from. Richie kindly showed the visitor from Turkey how to use the interactive whiteboard  and they both wrote their names. We have enjoyed sharing our work with the visitors and hope they can use some of these ideas in their schools.

Comenius Visit to 3M

On Wednesday 4th June, the headmaster and another teacher from a school in Antalya in Turkey, came to visit our class.  One of the teachers who visited 3M taught English to the Turkish children.  They answered questions about Turkey.   For example, they do PE on their school yard, but they don’t have a field.  Also, they told us that in the summer, temperatures can reach 50oC – hot enough to burn their feet!  However, at the moment, the temperature was closer to 20oC. As well as that, the teachers enlightened us to the fact that the volcanos in Turkey were fortunately extinct.  They told us an interesting fact that Noah’s Ark was buried on a mountain in Turkey, in the south of Turkey.  They thought that our school was fantastic and that they really liked all the children in our class!

The Comenius visit on Wednesday 3rd June

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We showed the visitors around our classroom and they gave us some colouring books about Paris.  We were making our scarecrows when the visitors came.  We were making the heads of our scarecrows out of newspaper, paper and card.

They told us about France and what it is like in France.  We found out that they eat smelly blue cheese and snails!  We found out what children in France do at school.  They read and learn and they do a different number of activities depending on how old they are.  The little children practise how to use scissors.  They also learn how to speak our language – English.

We showed them our boar.  We told them how we made our boar and how we painted it.  Everyone in the class painted a little bit of the boar.  In world week when we were learning about France we made a book about France and we pretended to travel to France on the Eurostar train.

We asked our visitors some questions.  We asked them what colour uniforms the children wore but they don’t wear any uniforms, they just wear any clothes they like.

1M Travels to France (virtual tour).

On Wednesday 4th June our Comenius partners came to visit our school. We wanted to share some work we are proud of.

We travelled to France on the Eurostar.  We were all given a ticket for the Eurostar which had our seat number on.  We had to go and find our seat.

On the journey we ate French bread and butter and drank French water.

We visited the Eiffel Tower.  It is made out of a strong metal called iron.  It has a café at the top.

Next we visited the Arc de Triomph.  It was built to remember the soldiers who died fighting in wars.

After that we visited the Palace De Versailles.  The kings and queens of France lived there.  There was a beautiful garden with mazes, statues, water features and lawns.

The next stop was Mont Blanc.  There was snow on the top.

Mont St Michel was an island we visited.  It had lots of steps.  You get there by a road which gets covered by the sea when the tide comes in.

The beaches at Normandy were very beautiful.  They had lots of sand dunes.

The last place we visited was Disneyland Paris.  We were in a parade at Disneyland.  It is the most visited attraction in France.
